Changes in sociology

                   

I consider this career of sociology have a good curriculum. However, it has a series of limitations in highly relevant aspects for any type of career. Personally, throughout it, I felt that there was no such "clear thread", maybe, as in other careers. I understand that this is something subjective, but many times I did not find a connection between what I studied, what I ended up doing in practice and what I finally learned. Although we have an almost well-defined object of study, such as "social phenomena", the amplitude of this object also generates a series of difficulties when developing in the career; In the end, everything will depend on your liking and not, what motivates you and what does not; this is friendly for someone, but extremely complicated for another people.

In relation to faculty, it's possible to talk to her like to "modest faculty" because it is a short extension of space and too is most old faculty in the "Campus Juan Gómez Millas". Despite the fact that a postgraduate building was built next to the "old faculty", I still feel that it was small in view of the large increase in enrollment that has been experienced in the careers and the university, in general. In this sense, these careers of "social scientists" do not have a great technological support such as engineering or careers related to health, but we have software support, especially statistics, for the application of our research. Therefore, the different methods occupied by professors within the career, will depend precisely on the content that is seen, being, in general, quite efficient for 50 people in a room to understand what is being taught.

What is your opinion about the Chilean politicians?

My opinion is that Chilean politicians have tended the last 20 years to move for their own interests, but mainly for the interests of those who finance their political campaigns, the entrepreneurs. I'm pretty sure that this relationship has to do, in reality, with the disconnection that exists between civil society and politics itself, which has resulted in indifference on the part of a large part of the population for political practice, be it through self-organization or generation of reflection in the public education. This is how Chile has worked for more than 29 years, which is why it is quite complicated to reverse the situation; nevertheless, it is possible.

What is your opinion about Immigration?

Without a doubt, immigration has been a constant since the birth of humanity; Independent of any religion, ethnicity or origin, people tend to move from space, seek security, and even more in initial contexts where this is not so easy to obtain. In the case of Chile, it is surprising the amount of racist opinions that have been generated regarding immigration, in particular that associated with poverty; while, the other type of immigration, which arrives by money and "exotic" surnames, enters the country almost without any problem; In general, I think that this is rather "aporophobia" or fear of poverty.

What is your opinion about the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases?

I agree with the legalization of abortion in the 3 causes, but I consider it an insufficient measure yet. This current law, although it covers certain women who in extremely exceptional situations make this decision, is still only a smaller percentage of the total number of abortions performed in the country. I'm absolutely certain that many of those who are against abortion, in the last case, with economic access, would still perform the necessary operation to avoid an unwanted baby. That is hypocrisy. By the same token, legal abortion and the decriminalization of it, is extremely necessary for the real autonomy of women.

What is your opinion about women in the military?

That there are still impediments for women to opt for anything shows the type of society in which we are. However, I am against believing that because a person attends military service in Chile or not, it has greater rights. It is a personal decision, obviously, but a chauvinist institution such as the Chilean Navy will not be less so, as women, homosexuals or transgenders join.

Possibility of postgrade studies

My chances of doing further studies will depend on a work meeting, or more specifically, what kind of work you have at that time. In my case, studying sociology opens up many possibilities for me to carry out activities in different areas, from statistics to public policies, in the private or state world, or definitively I choose the self-career. 

I have thought about studying, maybe, a master's degree in public policy, since it would be a good step to enter the labor world mainly. However, there are also many practices that involve this particular specialization. I also understand that this teaching must be within the country, because here we have the most precise tools for a social reality like Chile. In this master’s I expect many knowledge about social intervention, control of database, economy and political analysis. 

To attend this type of classes, you will need a course with regular classes, then, to yourself, to your attention. As a sociologist, and no longer with the idea of "recording" everything in my memory. In addition, this type of magister is usually very competitive among those who are in this type of work, especially for the limited places where it is possible to find work, being a sociologist. It is a decision that we will have to make, ultimately, later, when appropriate.

                                                

My future like a sociologist

It is not easy for me to imagine what I will work on or what I will dedicate in the future. I think I could work in the State or in the private world, but I'm afraid it's not my decision. Surely the decision on where I will work will not be sufficiently thought or reflected, but I will think that it is more important to get a job and now. I have thought about working in a classic sociologist's job, like an office, managing or controlling database and doing things with a PC, but I do not know, nor would I rule out another type of work that allows me to move, travel or at least have a less sedentary life.

I do not know what salary I will have, but I hope that I can serve to survive with my space, with my department. I have no idea how much I will win, but I hope to survive, support my family, hoping that the race will allow me to have a job apt enough to perform according to what I was taught here, in the faculty. In particular, my area of specialization in education that I hope can help me understand and help people who study in different establishments and in different types of careers: for women and men, for rich and poor, etc.

I simply hope that these 5 years of career have served me, but mainly those around me to start changing the world.

The same sociology

 

I chose to study the career of sociology, honestly, by intuition. I had passed previous stages in the high school that allowed me to commit and associate myself with certain ideas, especially after what were the mobilizations in 2011 in the school. Also, maybe, I was in a mood to want to transform things that surrounded me and still surround us today.

These airs of mobilization, I want to understand, were transformed into entering sociology in this university. For the same reason, I believe that those airs continued to be felt when I entered the race, which beyond the curriculum and the teachers, also concentrates too many people linked to politics, which comes from different sides, from almost all regions of the country. It was not clear whether to enter this race, but I had decided to stay in it.

Later, when I started to overcome certain cycles within the career, I explored other spaces within the university, with other interests and, therefore, I also left the university space and got involved again with other organizations, people and friends that also they are outside this "politicized" university.
